Sharing WiFi credentials is tedious when you have to dictate long, complex passwords. This tool generates the standard WIFI: connection string that can be used with a QR code generator to create scannable codes. It also creates a printable WiFi card with your network details.
This string follows the standard WiFi QR code format. Copy it and use it with the QR Code Generator tool to create a scannable QR code.
T:Authentication type (WPA, WEP, or nopass)S:Network SSID (name)P:Password (omitted for open networks)H:Hidden network flag (true/false)Special characters (\, ;, ,, ", :) in SSID or password must be escaped with a backslash.
Enter your WiFi network name (SSID) and password, then select the security type - WPA/WPA2 (most common), WEP, or None for open networks. Toggle the hidden network option if your SSID is not broadcast. The tool generates the standard WIFI: connection string which you can copy and paste into the QR Code Generator tool to create a scannable QR code. You can also print a WiFi card with your network credentials for display in offices, cafes, or guest rooms.
WiFi QR code generation is perfect for hospitality businesses (hotels, cafes, restaurants, co-working spaces) that want guests to connect easily without asking staff for the password, office IT departments onboarding new employees or visitors to corporate networks, home users creating printed cards for guests instead of sharing passwords verbally, Airbnb and vacation rental hosts providing seamless connectivity, event organizers sharing conference WiFi with attendees, retail stores offering customer WiFi as a service, and educational institutions providing network access in classrooms and libraries.
This tool generates strings using the standard WIFI: URI scheme defined by the Wi-Fi Alliance and supported by iOS 11+, Android 10+, and most modern smartphones. The format is: WIFI:T:<security>;S:<SSID>;P:<password>;H:<hidden>;; where T is the security type (WPA, WEP, or nopass), S is the network name (SSID), P is the password, and H is true/false for hidden networks. Special characters in the SSID and password (semicolons, colons, backslashes, commas, and double quotes) are escaped with backslashes. The generated string can be pasted into any QR code generator to create a scannable code.
On iOS, open the Camera app and point it at the QR code - a notification appears to join the network. On Android 10+, use the built-in Camera app or go to Settings > WiFi > QR code icon. Most modern smartphones automatically detect WiFi QR codes and prompt you to connect without any additional app.
WiFi QR codes contain your network name and password in plain text within the QR encoding. Display them only where authorized users can scan them (e.g., printed in a private area, not visible from outside). For high-security environments, consider using a separate guest network with limited access and rotating the password regularly.
The tool supports WPA/WPA2 (most common for home and business networks), WEP (legacy, not recommended due to known vulnerabilities), and open networks (no password). Select the security type that matches your router's configuration.
